Statement on the aerial bombings in Myanmar

The International League of Peoples Struggle Asia Pacific (ILPS-AP) condemns the recent aerial bombings last February 5, 2024, targeting Loinanpha Village, Demoso Township, in the Karenni State in Myanmar, which resulted in the tragic deaths of four young students. These heinous acts of the fascist and terrorist Myanmar military junta are among the long list of atrocities committed by the Tatmadaw against the people of Myanmar.

These aerial bombings in Myanmar are part of a pattern of violence perpetrated by the country’s military regime. There have been multiple instances of the Myanmar military bombing civilian populations in the past. For instance, on October 20, 2023, a military air strike killed 28 civilians at the Mung Lai Hkyet displacement camp in Kachin State, near the border with China. This camp has been home to displaced people since 2011.

Since the February 2021 coup, the fascist and terrorist Myanmar military has displaced 2.6 million people, launched over 1,000 airstrikes, and burnt down 77,274 houses.

The International League of Peoples’ Struggle Asia Pacific denounces the use of aerial bombardments against civilians. We stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar and reaffirm our commitment to support efforts aimed at ending the junta and returning the country to democratic civilian rule. It is imperative that those responsible for these heinous acts be held accountable for their actions, and that steps be taken to prevent further loss of innocent lives.
